I got an email from John around midnight our time letting me know that they were heading out. I apologize for not posting sooner, but I had a baby who wouldn't let me put her down for long enough to post. :) In any case, the email from John read as follows: "Just wanted to let you know we're heading out now. I got a Tanzanian sim card, so I'll have email access. I will be keeping my phone off, but will send regular updates. We just got on a shabby little bus with all our gear on top and full of our guide, porters, etc. We have about a four hour trip around to the north side of the mountain and we'll start the climb around noon or so."
Noon Tanzanian time is 4 A.M. central time, so I'm guessing they are done climbing for the day and have set up camp for the first night on the mountain. I haven't gotten any new updates on their progress for the first day, but will update when I hear from the group!
