Avery's Birthday Weekend

Avery's birthday morning started early. We got her up about 7 AM so we'd have time to frost her birthday cupcakes before daycare. She also got to open one present from mommy and daddy. Her first present of the day was a beanbag chair that she sat in for a good share of the weekend. The picture on the top is her right before leaving for daycare that morning.

She went to daycare (her last day at the home daycare she's been at for the past two years... kind of bittersweet; excited for her to move on to more of a "preschool" environment but sad to see her leave the woman who's cared for her for the past two years) until 1:00 and then Josh brought her home. As soon as I got home from work the three of us headed out for the zoo. I'm sure Tate would have been fine at the zoo too, but it was so nice to just be able to focus on Avery.

The zoo wasn't large by any means, but there was plenty to keep us entertained for a few hours. The picture on the right is from the carousel at the zoo... the fastest, most motion-sickness-inducing carousel I've ever been on. After the zoo, Avery got to choose where we went for dinner. She chose "the apple restaurant" (Applebee's). Not my favorite, but not my birthday and better than Chuck E. Cheese.

After dinner came more presents! Grandma Jane gave her a little trampoline and Josh and I gave her a sleeping bag and a camping cup (I know, these don't sound like fun things for a three-year old, but she knows we have a camping trip coming up and is excited to use them). We also bought her a new robe and slippers because she hates being cold in the morning. Doesn't she look adorable? Don't mind the birthday mess everywhere in the picture.

Saturday was her party. We kept it a bit smaller this year, which was nice. I felt like I actually got to enjoy the party more than when we had 25+ people. My mom made Avery's cake. It went perfectly with the princess theme of the party.

Here are more pics from the weekend. And a quick funny story. At dinner on Friday night I was telling my mom about feeding the goats at the zoo. Avery didn't really want to do it (and I'd already bought the food) so I did it. I wasn't scared until I tried it for the first time. The goats knew I had food and were a bit agressive in grabbing it out of my hand. One of them overshot a bit and clipped my hand with his horn. It didn't hurt so much as it startled me. I looked at Josh and said that I hoped I wouldn't have to go on disability as a result of feeding the goats at the zoo (if my hands aren't functioning, I can't do my job). Avery heard me telling my mom the story during dinner and started singing (in her not-so-quiet sing-song voice) "GOIN' ON DISABILITY, GOIN' ON DISABILITY..." I quickly got her to be quiet, but not before wondering if the diners around us were thinking that was a frequent topic in our house...
